Mural at Estero Morúa, Puerto Peñasco, Mexico
2006–2007

Working with the Intercultural Center for the Study of Deserts and Oceans (CEDO) in Puerto Peñasco and University of Arizona illustration students and faculty, I acted as an art director and advisor and helped paint a mural on a newly rebuilt restaurant owned by a cooperative of women oyster farmers who farm in the estuary. The women have been battling for legal rights to the land against many developers who wish to build skyscraper hotels and golf courses on the coast and estuary. The mural gives the women visible, serious presence and educates tourists and locals on the endangered native flora and fauna.

A sad and common site along the beautiful beaches.
